On the eve of India's 67th
Independence Day, the sports minister has announced that they are going to
confer the 'Bharat Ratna' to Major Dhyan Chand.
In lieu of his formidable
contributions to our national game Hockey, almost four decades after he has
passed away in 1979. Dhyan Chand was a member of the victorious squads in the
1928, 1932 and 1936 Olympics and is widely regarded as the greatest hockey player
that India has produced.
